Saturday- Transfer from Bari or Brindisi airport, or pre-hotel arrangements/transfers; cost based on participation. Check-in time 5:30pm. Welcome Reception followed by dinner.
Sunday- Brindisi- B, D at the villa; we will have a pleasant stroll through the old city, starting from the opposite shore and arriving to the dock by a motorboat-line; here almost two millenniums ago arrived the Appian Way from Rome and here departed ships towards Greece and Egypt; at lunch time you will have wine tasting and meal at Numeroprimo. Afterwards you will have a walk on the other side of natural harbour to enjoy the view.
Monday- Conversanp, Alberoello- B, D at the villa; today includes a guided visit through the marvellous alleyways of Conversano, an old centre composed by white stones, stories and legends, where the coexistence of Lords, Abbesses and Bishops has not been easy; on the other hand they left an important heritage: the Castle, the Monastery and the Cathedral. We will have a rooftop lunch complete with wine, before we drive to the UNESCO site of Alberobello, where the hillside is filled with the cone shaped white Trullo; unique to Puglia.
Tuesday- Bari- B, L, D, at the villa. Enjoy the villa today and attend a cooking class with Chef Katie. You will learn Pugliese’s infamous Cavatelli pasta, to be enjoyed at lunch. Or, opt for time on own with a transfer to Bari with many shopping & dining options in the pedestrian area, or stroll through the old town. Bari is a port city on the Adriatic Sea, and the capital of southern Italy’s Puglia region. Its mazelike old town, Barivecchia, occupies a headland between 2 harbors. Surrounded by narrow streets, The “old town” of Bari, home to some of the most important attractions such as Basilica San Nicola and the Cathedral, is a must-see in itself! With its narrow, winding alleyways, Bari Vecchia feels like a step back in time. You could easily find women making orecchiette (pasta) right on the street.
Wednesday- Grottaglie & Locorotondo- B, D at the villa. Decorated pottery was produced 2500 years ago for water and wine use. A short demonstration of the long ceramic tradition in Grottaglie. Today this town represent the most important centre for this craftsmanship; in the area close to the old part of the town are located the workshops like Cinzia’s. She is continuing her family tradition; she will explain about her experience and her marvellous artworks.
Afterwards we will drive to Locorotondo to meet Marianna and her family’s cellar: a pleasant wine experience at Cardone Vini with wine tasting and local tasty food in the vineyard beneath the old town.
Thursday- Egnazia, Polignano a Mare- B, D at the villa. Today we have a guided visit of the Museum and Archaeological Park of Egnazia where marvellous painted pottery and marble sculptures can explain the evolution of ancient arts and society through the centuries; the grape icon is often represented, since the wine was the symposium drink. Outside in the ruins of the archaeological area currently being actively excavated, you will recognize some typical elements of a Roman city: the Forum, the Thermal Baths and the Via Trajana.
After Egnazia you will have a delicious seafood lunch at La Colonna, a beautiful terrace restaurant on the Adriatic. We will start with an appetizer accompanied by your choice of bubbly, wine, or beer, pasta, then a mixed grill & dessert.
A special treat awaits when we visit Polignano a Mare when we walk through the old centre, which is perched atop a twenty meters high limestone cliff above crystal clear water. From here you will enjoy one of the most beautiful views in Italy; then you will descent to Lama Monachile for a first impression about the erosion made by temporary water flows. Crystal clear waters and cliffs pitted with caves carved by the sea give Polignano a Mare its uniqueness, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,”
Friday- Ostuni- B, D at the villa. This last morning is dedicated to olive oil. Since 1500, Masseria il Frantoio has been a country farm. Today it is a biological farm immersed in a timeless atmosphere where culture and tradition intertwine and merge with research and modernity. A place where they love to tell ancient stories while we enjoy an olive oil tasting and lunch. From here we will reach the “White Town” of Ostuni for a stroll: the small streets give an incredible panoramic view on olive trees, stone walls and the shore line.
